An Oasis of Opportunity in North Glasgow
Rosemount Lifelong Learning is a busy learning centre in the heart of Royston which provides a fantastic variety of adult learning opportunities and first class childcare. Our track record is remarkable, given the starting point of many of our participants: often out of work, sometimes exacerbated by low literacy levels, family discord, inability to speak English and isolated from normal networks. Too many lack any meaningful social contacts and lack skills, even those needed to survive day-to day – it leads to a constant cycle of depression and despair, low confidence and self esteem. In turn, people develop poor coping mechanisms and deal with stress in destructive ways.
What we achieved in 2010/11:
- 1,000 adults and 460 children used Rosemount’s services.
- 540 people attended classes at the Flexicentre - 374 helped with literacy or numeracy, 112 people achieved qualifications.
- 182 children attended nursery or afterschool care, 100 children attended the Flexicentre crèche
- 90 parents were able to keep working while 21 attend college thanks to Rosemount childcare.
- 40 young parents attended the "Making a Difference" programme
- 38 men participated in the Men’s group

With 45% of that money invested in children, with whom we achieve far-reaching impacts in confidence, health and long term prospects – it is an investment that reaps rich rewards for this community. Our value is recognised by many funders, including Lloyds TSB, the Big Lottery, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, BBC Children in Need, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Housing Association, the Scottish Government and European Social Fund.
For a full picture see our 2009/10 audited accounts.
The recession has hit local families badly and the need for our services is greater than ever, just as public spending and charitable trust budgets are being squeezed.
That’s why see seek support from individual donors.
Here’s how your money will help:
- £10 pays for three hours after school care for child whose parents’ misuse drugs and alcohol
- £10 helps our Mens’ Group plan and organise a week’s activities
- £50 pays for 11 hours in our nursery for a baby at risk of neglect
- £50 pays for five Flexicentre Crèche sessions for 45 children – this in turn allows 40 parents to study English or Computing.
- £50 pays for four hours’ Adult Literacy and Numeracy
